Episode 19: The Power of a Thank You; the Power of Burying a Child

As this podcast drops on November 7, we may or may not know the complete outcome of the United States elections, held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Collectively, we have all been through the preverbal ringer. Mostly, my circle of people, my tribe, which consists of people representing three parties; Democrat, Republican, and “can’t we find a better system?” are exhausted and yet continue to raise their voices for KINDNESS. What exactly is KINDNESS? Take a listen to episode 019, “The Power of a Thank You; The Power of Burying a Child” to learn how I make my soul feel better and you can, too. Sharing our thank you with others is powerful and needed in our current, emotionally charged environment.

mindy’s show notes

thank you, the power of a thank you, burying a childNo matter the outcome, the sun will rise tomorrow (I think), our work schedules remain mostly intact, there IS a hellacious pandemic that sees no political boundaries, no color, and no doubt will be with us for the foreseeable future. Our mental health is strung out like the parents of a newborn on day four of no sleep. We are seeking refuge; we are seeking less shrieking at one another and are in desperate need of more KINDNESS.

What exactly is KINDNESS? Take a listen to episode 019, “The Power of a Thank You; The Power of Burying a Child” to learn how I make my soul feel better and you can, too. Sharing our thank you with others is powerful and needed in our current, emotionally charged environment. We could start by thanking our election day volunteers for their time and energy! If you have never offered a thank you or a “review” of a business online, follow this link for instructions on one way to leave a review.

Assuming you want to be kind and are looking for tangible actions to do so. I offer the following; The Church of the Resurrection, a Methodist church in Kansas and Missouri, held a #Love Your Neighbor Campaign to celebrate their 30 years of service to the communities. By the way, everyone is your neighbor. As their campaign was running, Small Changes, Big Shifts Foundation started another 31 days of kindness to keep us on track. Beginning November 12, Faith Always Wins will host Cultivating Kindness over a 60-day period, taking us into 2021 with smiles, hugs, giving, sharing, and love…all of these lead to KINDNESS. You can also listen to my previous podcast, episode 06 with Sunayana Dumala, who created Forever Welcome as an empathetic and kind gesture to immigrants after her husband was murdered because of his brown skin. If you can’t find a kind action to do for your neighbor, a stranger, or that person who voted differently than you, you aren’t trying.

Stay with me as I transition from how I fill my soul to how others have done so as well.

If you have lost a child, you undoubtedly understand my next statement.

There is NO power, NO fire in the belly, NO passion to right a wrong or make the world better for another, than that from a parent who buried a child. In the second half of episode 019, “The Power of a Thank You; The Power of Burying a Child”, I introduce you to only three of many parents I know who are making a difference for YOU because of the pain they have endured. Meet Jan Marrs with Speak UP, Roger Kemp with the Ali Kemp Educational Foundation, and Susan Bro with the Heather Heyer Foundation.

Their tireless efforts are Breaking the Silence in our conversation surrounding mental health, Training a Woman to Save a Life, and Promoting Equal Rights for All People.

Powerful and Kind, they are channeling their pain to improve the world in which we live.

Thank YOU for your support of me. Stay safe and wear a mask to protect yourself and others!

Together, we will shine a light on peace.
